Position Overview

The Electronics Test Engineer / Environmental Test Technician is responsible for hands-on testing, validation, and qualification of electronic hardware assemblies in laboratory and environmental test settings. This role supports engineering and quality teams by executing benchtop, thermal vacuum (TVAC), vibration, and environmental stress tests while ensuring strict adherence to procedures, safety standards, and documentation requirements common in regulated industries such as aerospace and defense.

Key Responsibilities

Benchtop Electronics Testing

  • Perform benchtop testing of electronic assemblies using standard laboratory instruments including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), power supplies, and function generators.

  • Troubleshoot electronic boards and systems down to the component level to identify root causes of failures.

  • Support debugging activities through systematic fault isolation and data-driven analysis.

Environmental & Qualification Testing

  • Prepare hardware for environmental testing, including thermal vacuum (TVAC) and vibration testing.

  • Install sensors, configure harnessing, and support chamber setup and test execution.

  • Verify hardware configuration, readiness, and safety prior to initiating thermal or vacuum cycles.

  • Support vibration testing activities (sine, random, and shock), including fixture setup, instrumentation, monitoring, and post-test inspection.

ESD Control & Hardware Safety

  • Maintain strict adherence to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) control procedures when handling sensitive electronic hardware.

  • Utilize ESD-safe workstations, grounding methods, and wrist strap verification as part of daily workflow.

  • Identify and mitigate ESD risks to prevent damage during test, handling, and integration activities.

Procedures, Documentation & Quality Compliance

  • Execute detailed test procedures accurately and consistently, ensuring compliance with approved instructions and standards.

  • Identify, communicate, and escalate discrepancies or concerns related to test procedures that may be unclear, incorrect, or unsafe.

  • Maintain complete and traceable test documentation, including test logs, discrepancy reports, and configuration records.

  • Ensure test results meet internal quality standards and regulatory documentation requirements.

Collaboration & Work Habits

  • Prepare hardware for testing by performing thorough pre-test inspections and verification checks.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and program teams during test campaigns.

  • Communicate test results, anomalies, and observations clearly and effectively to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience performing benchtop testing of electronic assemblies.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electronic hardware at the board and component level.

  • Experience supporting environmental testing such as thermal vacuum (TVAC), vibration, or environmental stress screening.

  • Knowledge of ESD control practices and safe handling of sensitive electronics.

  • Experience following detailed test procedures and working within controlled, regulated environments.

  • Familiarity with test documentation, logging, and traceability practices.

  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and commitment to quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, space systems, or other highly regulated industries.

  • Prior exposure to configuration management systems and discrepancy reporting tools.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering and test teams.

Work Environment

  • Laboratory and environmental test facilities.

  • Hands-on, hardware-focused role requiring adherence to safety, ESD, and quality standards.
